Banff Overview

Welcome to the small town of Banff in the heart of Banff National Park, Canada's first national park located in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Banff is one of the very few towns that is actually located inside a national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This unique status comes with its advantages as well as challenges as local residents are constantly wrestling with the question of how best to live in harmony with nature.

Banff is the main destination point for travelling within the Canadian Rockies and from here you can tour to other areas in the area such as Lake Louise, Jasper, Canmore and Kananaskis Country.

This unique little town has a wonderful history which is evident in the numerous architectural delights and museums which reveal the unique mountain culture that exists as the historical backbone to this busy tourist destination.

The mountain scenery is awe inspiring even if just seen from a side walk cafe. If you are more adventurous, numerous opportunities to get acquainted with nature exist only moments from the town centre – see the guide main menu >
